The Windows performance and visualization app built by developer Christophe Kalkau just received a free update to version 2.3.0, and it's a meaningful one for anyone working with MIDI Polyphonic Expression — whether you own a Seaboard, an Osmose, a LinnStrument, or nothing MPE-specific at all.
What MPE Insight actually does
At its core, MPE Insight is a monitoring and performance tool. Plug in any MPE controller and the app renders exactly what it's transmitting — per-note pitch bend, pressure/aftertouch, and timbre (CC74) — across nine simultaneously running visual modules with names like Rings, Particles, Kaleidoscope, Spider Web, and DNA Helix. Each view can be arranged freely in the workspace, layered with transparent backgrounds for streaming or video overlays, and driven live during a performance rather than just used for troubleshooting.
That diagnostic function matters more than it might sound. Other refinements in this release focus on accuracy: full per-note and per-channel tracking of pressure, pitch bend, timbre, velocity, and release velocity, giving sound designers and educators a genuinely reliable window into what their gear is doing note by note.

The 2.3.0 update is free for existing MPE Insight owners. New customers can pick it up for €34.99, and the app is now also available on Steam, where it's running a 15% discount through August 4, 2026. It remains Windows-only for now, with no confirmed timeline for a macOS release.
